More information

A coaxial cable consists of a center conductor, dielectric, screen and an outer jacket. The center conductor can be solid or multi-stranded. A solid center conductor will deliver a superior electronic performance, whereas a cable with a multi-stranded center conductor will be more flexible.

The choice of material of the dielectric will also have a significant impact on the cable’s performance. PTFE, PEA, FEP, PE all influence the signal path in different ways, affecting its attenuation, flexibility and temperature range.

The cable screen can consist of a braided screen, foiled screen, tin soaked braid, or a straight or a corrugated pipe. There may also be a combination of screens. The outer layer consists of a protective jacket, of which there are a variety suited to different needs. A flame retardant jacket would for instance be ideal for indoor use.

Applications:

Coaxial cables are mainly used for signal transmission. Typical uses include facilities on planes and trains, airport landing systems, radars, and tv-antennas.

Requirements for coaxial cables:

The requirements for coaxial cables vary depending on their intended use. For example, if used in chemical fields it must withstand corrosive substances, whereas coaxial cables used in military fields should be both flame retardant and halogen free to meet necessary CPR requirements.

Bredengen AS has a wide range of MIL-specified standard RG-cables. These include both traditional outdoor cables with a PVC-jacket and indoor cables that are flame retardant, halogen free and comply with the new CPR-directive. All MIL-specified cables work perfectly with our assortment of RF connectors.

MUD cables are cables that meet the requirement to be installed where they are exposed to MUD chemicals from Oil and Gas production.

Superflexible RFF and extraflexible RFE cables guarantee top performance in all circumstances. The secret to their high performance – small bending radius combined with low attenuation – lies in their deep spiral corrugation construction. This ensures exceptional flexibility and crush resistance.

A semirigid cable is a highly stiff cable that can only be bent once. It is used in static installations where the cable should remain fixed.

RADOX® is an abbreviation of «radiation X-linked» and describes the process of crosslinking thermoplastic polymers using electron beams. Our supplier HUBER+SUHNER has used this technology since the 1970s, to achieve notable improvements in the thermal, mechanical and chemical properties of the cable insulation material. RADOX® cables do not melt, possess better abrasion resistance and greater cut resistance than conventional cables and, even with thinner insulation, are much more resistant to various environmental factors.

RADOX® OFL™ High-grade cabling solutions that ensure safety and operational efficiency without the premium.

Multiple benefits, one solution:

  • NEK 606 compliance
  • Excellent mechanical, abrasion, and heat resistance
  • High and low temperature tolerant (from -50° up to +125°C)
  • Able to withstand exposure to chemicals, oils, acids/bases, fuels, as well as harsh environmental factors
  • Long service life
